Last weekend the Ducth Erividivisie saw one of the most blatant examples of when gamesmanship and sportsmanship get into a bit tussle.
During the match between Ajax and Sparta Rotterdam, Bertrand Traoré went down with an injury. His teammate Joel Veltman, who had the ball at the time, signalled to the opposition to stop play so Traoré could get treatment… What happened next defies belief… As soon as the defenders turned their head towards Traoré, Veltman dribble the ball towards the touchline and put in a cross looking for a team mate to score amidst the confusion.
From PsyTool, we condemn Veltman’s action and would like to encourage parents and coaches to, perhaps using this example, bring up the subject of sportsmanship with their players, sons and daughters.
Where do you stand? Where do you want them to stand?
